The N64 with attached controller
The Nintendo 64 (Or N64 for short) was Nintendo's 64 bit console. It was released during the Fifth Generation of
gaming and is the host console for the 64DD.
History[]
The N64 was first released in Japan on June 23, 1996. The Nintendo 64 was first sold in North America on September 29, 1996. It's two launch titles were Super Mario 64 and Pilotwings 64. The PAL version of the console was released in Europe on March 1, 1997. Nintendo discontinued the N64 in 2002 and was succeeded by the Nintendo GameCube.
64DD[]

Rather than going with a CD-ROM based storage method, Nintendo opted to use cartridges on the N64 instead. This caused problems for 3rd Party developers, who did not have enough memory to fit their games into the low cartridge memory. In response, Nintendo created the 64DD. The 64DD used magnetic disks and held more data than a standard N64 cartridge (But less data than a CD). The 64DD also had a real-time clock and internet capabilities. The 64DD launched in December of 1999. It quickly became a flop and Nintendo discontinued the peripheral in 2001.
